Count the glass and describe the surrounding work
Start at one end of the storefront and list each pane and door section. Photograph the full frontage so the provider can see its height, layout and obstructions. Identify upper glass, side returns and interior partitions separately. A picture taken from the sidewalk is useful, but it may not show the interior access needed.
State whether the scope includes frames, sills, tracks, handles and the edges around door hardware. These items take time and should not be hidden behind the phrase “clean the windows.” If the building maintains part of the frontage, establish the boundary before requesting overlapping work.

Check film, coatings, graphics and existing damage
Ask the landlord or installer about the glass type, exposed coatings and any applied film. Tell the provider which decals and graphics must stay in place. If signage is being replaced, describe that removal as a separate request; ordinary window cleaning should not imply removing every adhesive or bonded material.
Vitro recommends checking a small test area and keeping metal scrapers out of routine glass cleaning. Use the relevant glass, film and sealant care guidance for the actual installation. Record visible scratches, damaged film or uncertain residue before cleaning rather than assuming every mark is removable dirt.
Make a complete storefront scope sheet
The following list helps separate the visible glass from the surrounding detail work. Add the number or approximate dimensions where possible, and identify anything needing an on-site assessment.
Scroll sideways to see all columns.
| Scope item | Detail to confirm |
|---|---|
| Exterior panes | Count, approximate height and accessible working area |
| Interior panes | Count and clearance behind displays or furniture |
| Entry doors | Glass, edges, handles and surrounding frame work |
| Sills and tracks | Which accessible sections are included |
| Film and signage | Care information and items that must remain untouched |
| Residue or staining | Separate assessment of adhesives, deposits or other marks |

Choose frequency by the condition of the frontage
Inspect the entrance glass and main display panes during normal trading hours. Door fingerprints may appear much faster than dirt on a less-used side pane. Nearby work, deliveries and weather can change the condition between visits. For a coastal storefront in Santa Monica or Ventura, include observations from the seaward-facing panes when discussing the schedule instead of choosing an interval from a generic calendar.
You may want frequent attention to door glass with full-pane cleaning on a different schedule. Put both tasks in writing so a quick entrance visit is not mistaken for a complete storefront clean. Review the schedule after changes to operating hours, foot traffic or the display layout instead of keeping an unsuitable interval indefinitely.
Arrange access around customers and merchandise
Agree on a working window that accounts for opening, deliveries and access to both sides of the glass. Clear the interior area needed for the work or name the person who will move displays. A provider should not have to decide how to handle valuable merchandise or disconnect a lit display without instructions.
Confirm how the work area will be separated from customer traffic and what building or property instructions apply. High or difficult-to-reach glass may require a different access plan and should be discussed before booking. Do not assume a quote for accessible storefront panes includes every upper window on the building.
- Confirm who unlocks the site and attends the visit.
- Identify displays and items that need to be moved.
- Coordinate the work area with customers and deliveries.
- Separate any elevated or restricted-access glass for assessment.
Inspect in the light customers will see
Review the cleaned glass from inside and outside where accessible. Look at the agreed corners, frame edges and areas around door hardware as well as the center of the pane. Lighting can make marks easier or harder to see, so avoid approving the work solely from a distant view through a dark window.
Record any concern by pane or door rather than saying the whole frontage looks wrong. Distinguish a missed cleaning area from a documented scratch, damaged film or excluded deposit. For a Blended window-cleaning quote, send frontage photos, the address, the sides to be cleaned and any known film or access information.
